About WPA
The Wisconsin Pastel Artists is a group of people who love the medium of pastel. Pastel techniques can be challenging:
the medium is mixed and blended directly on the working surface. Due to the very pure pigment being used by pastel artists, as well as application techniques, the work is referred to as 'painting' rather than 'drawing.'
Any pastel artist who agrees with the objectives of WPA and pays the required annual dues is eligible to be a member and volunteer for any officer position or committee.
Signature Member Status is granted to a member in good standing who has held a service position in WPA for at least two years and after he/she has had three (3) paintings accepted in three or more WPA juried exhibitions. No more than one (1) painting per year shall count in this tally. Once this requirement is fulfilled, the president shall notify the member that "WPA" may be affixed after their name. Signature membership shall remain as long as the member is in good standing.
Member Meetings
The WPA members meet on the second Wednesday in January, March, May, July (sometimes), September and November.
The WPA Board meets on the fourth Wednesday in February, April, June, August, October and December.
Usually the meetings are from 6:30 to about 8:30 pm. and are held at Christ Alone Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mequon, Wisconsin. All meetings are also offered on Zoom.. (Members will be sent a link several days before each meeting.)
The format of our meetings varies. We may have a demonstration by an artist. Or we may have a 'show and tell'
by members of their recent work. Or we may have a critique by a guest professional artist of members' works.
